Line Sister Focus: Mona

#2 - "Smooth Sailing" - Mona Turner

Line Name(s) and how you got them:

Smooth Sailing - I have more than 1 but this one I always liked the most.

What's your favorite memory online?
One of my favorite memories is sneaking in pictures before we piled into cars and speeding down I20 laughing, talking and trying to get to meetings on time.

Here's where you BRAG about yourself.
I've worked for the same company for 15 years.  I haven't reached my grand accomplishment yet. And I say that because i'm still working on me. Raising my 15 year old daughter alone has been a challenge but I wouldn't change it for anything. I love to travel in and out of the US. I look forward to going to places I've never been before. I love to bowl, dance, eat but not cook, read, watch movies and now that I'm older take occasional naps.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your 1995 self?
Don't be so uptight, get to know people more and learn to open up more. I don't always let people get too close and I regret that.

What's the one thing every woman should have ...and what's the one thing every Delta Woman should have?
Every woman needs enduring power. Life isn't always easy. Every Delta woman needs passion. Passion is part of what keeps you wanting to be a part.

Name one thing on your bucket-list that you will complete during our 20th Anniversary year? Related to Delta or not.
Becoming active. Not just financially but physically.

What line sister(s) do you wish you would have gotten to know better during our process?
Donetha.  I really didn't have many conversations to get to know her.

Does your line name still fit?  If not, what name would you give yourself to I got my line name for being able to easily remember and recite. I think I can still retain a lot.

Trip Choices

Please review the options listed below and vote using the poll on the right of the page.  There is a vast difference in the pricing for each option and that is because our dates are during high season in Punta Cana.  Also consider the options for activities in each location. The destinations are very different. In Punta Cana you have the beach and the sun...In Las Vegas, you have the shopping and the nightlife....

A few things to remember:

  • Pricing is for March 26-30, 2015
  • These prices are not locked until we make a deposit.
  • The resorts in DR are all-inclusive. Las Vegas is not.
  • Pricing is for double occupancy
  • If we don't like the lodging options we can look at other options.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a comment on this post.
  • After reviewing the options VOTE ON YOUR DESTINATION ON THE RIGHT by 6/8.

Let's get started!

We have wished each other a "Happy Deltaversary" for the last 19 years....and each year brings back so many memories that I only have in common with 29 other ladies on this earth. Every time I see pictures of other lines getting together to celebrate their crossing anniversary, I want to make sure that our upcoming 20th anniversary is one that leaves others wishing they had thought of that.

So let's do it. Let's bring in 20 years of being a Delta with a bang and create more great memories with the original 30. We have decided to document the next 6 months of planning and the resulting anniversary celebrations on this blog. This will be the place to see what our committee leaders are planning, get caught up on each line sister's lives, and share any information that will help make our anniversary year an exciting and eventful one.

Our goal is to keep the blog updated weekly with new content and to use it to get your comments and suggestions as well as push updates out to you.

Blog, t-shirt, jacket planning meeting

The planning has begun, and I have heard a lot of you saying you want to help, so let me give you some suggestions on how to get involved.
  • Share your suggestions with us: Post ideas in our Facebook Group, leave a comment on this blog, or send an email to a committee leader.
  • Respond to emails: We have already started sending out emails requesting information from our line sisters so we can feature each of you on the blog. In the future we will need feedback on trip destinations, t-shirts, jackets, and activities.
  • Get excited: Let's make this a big deal. We all have such busy lives and I think this is a great time to get together and enjoy the company of each other.
If you have suggestions for future blog posts, activities, gifts, etc. Please share.

We look forward to hearing from you,

The Blog Team

Line Sister Focus: Cynthia

#1 - “THE ACE” - Cynthia R. Durden

Line Name(s) and how you got them:
  • Too Cool - I received at Omar’s house cause nothing didn’t faze me when our Big sisters were in our faces.
  • Chilly - I received that when I was taking Adenika to see her mom at Macy’s in Southlake Mall and some guy spoke to me as I was parking and she said “I know you didn’t just throw your head up and speak to him?” I told her yes Big Sister DP and she said “Chilly, you cornball!”
  • All Heart - Given to me by Serena at the Chuk-E-Cheese when the line got split up and Morgan was with me and one of our LS needed a juice or didn’t get something to eat and I gave mine away to her and Serena say “Cynthia, you’re ALL HEART and I love you lil’ sis”!

What's your favorite memory online?
I have so many!! One of my favorite times on line was our “O” when we were all in our red shirts and jeans sharing our life experiences and our coming out with “Teta” eating the fire as we sung “I See The Delta Light”!!!

Here's where you BRAG about yourself.
I’ve made Delta History twice within the 20 years of our line! I chartered Stone Mountain Alumnae Chapter and was their 1st PanHellenic Representative in March 9, 1997 with 77 other Sorors. I recently charted the Covington Area Alumnae Chapter on April 12, 2014 with 74 other Sorors as the 1st Physical and Mental Health Chair. It has been 8 years of blessed health since my kidney transplant (January 17, 2006)! I’ve won two track championships with my boys and girls track team!!

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your 1995 self?
Oh wow! I would tell my 1995 self that when you graduate from college, staying financial and active in Delta is a pledge process in itself. You have to find what you’re good at and contribute that in making the sorority better and remember the commitment you made when you knelt down and placed your hand on the letters/pillow… it’s for life. Continue to serve and make your community better!! Every Soror won’t have the same passion for Delta that you do or be in the same place/level of commitment, so you have to be true to yourself and be an example for others to follow!!!

What's the one thing every woman should have ...and what's the one thing every Delta Woman should have?
The one thing that every woman should have is her own checking/savings account and a strand of REAL pearls! Every Delta woman should have Ritual and a Delta pin!

Name one thing on your bucket-list that you will complete during our 20th Anniversary year? Related to Delta or not.
Getting married/expecting first child/Going to Las Vegas (I know it’s supposed to be only 1!!!)

What line sister(s) do you wish you would have gotten to know better during our process?
I would have loved to have more time with Raymonia, Donetha, Tiffany N. and Lysandra.

Does your line name still fit?  If not, what name would you give yourself to reflect the “you” of today?
Yes, my line names still fit. I’m still cool and chill under pressure and I’m still that loving, giving, putting others before myself LS that I was 20 years ago (SMILE)!!!!
